Armenia, a Partnership for Peace (PfP) country, hosted Senior Course 129 on 15 December 2016, as the final destination on its Regional Approaches and PfP Field Study.
Mr Davit Tonoyan, First Deputy Minister of Defence, addressed the group on his country’s strategic defence review process and contributions to NATO operations, as well as the ongoing reform of the Armed Forces.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Ashot Hovakimyan spoke about Armenian foreign policy, highlighting cooperation with NATO and other international organizations.
At the National Assembly, Mr Koryun Nahapetyan, President of the Standing Committee of Defence, National Security and Internal Affairs, briefed SC 129 on regional priorities and related security questions, as well as the impact of constitutional amendments on these matters.
The overall learning opportunity provided by the Regional Approaches and PfP Field Study was significant, with visits to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Turkey and Armenia broadening Course Members’ perspectives on regional security and related defence matters.
