
Virtual Field Study 1 moved to Germany on Day 3 with the German team of experts on defence and security providing SC 138 Course Members with the fundamentals of Germany’s role from a national as well as international perspective.
The session started with welcome remarks by the NDC’s Commandant, LGEN Olivier Rittimann, and those of the Director-General for Strategy and Operations at the Federal Ministry of Defence, LGEN Bernd Schütt.
Moderated by COL Prescher, the session started with a presentation by Dr. Karl-Heinz Kamp, Special Envoy of the Political Director at the Federal Ministry of Defence and former Director of the NDC Research Division, who focused on the principles and keystones of German Security and Defence Policy, followed by an open discussion. The next lecturer, BGEN Dirk Faust, Chief of Division for Strategy and Operations, focused his presentation on Bundeswehr (Federal Armed Forces) Operations II, covering topics such as the primacy of politics, global challenges and collective defence. Lastly, Dr. Claudia Major, Head of Research Division International Security at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, explained the key aspects of German Security Policy, referring to its guiding principles, current state and the challenges ahead.
