On Friday 6 March 2015, the NATO Defense College had the pleasure of hosting a delegation of fifteen students and three professors from the International Relations course of the American University of Rome (AUR). This was an opportunity for the group to receive a general overview of the NDC’s courses and related activities.
Participants were warmly welcomed by the Head of the Public Affairs Office, Lt Col Alberto Alletto (ITA A). They then spent an interesting morning in the Maynard Thorn Auditorium, where they attended Senior Course 126’s two scheduled lectures of the day, both examining “The Evolution of International Law and Ethics in Modern Warfare”. These were given by Mr Jamie Williamson (GBR) and Prof Dr Boštjan M. Zupancic (SVN).
Following the lectures, the delegation was briefed on the College’s history and mission and had a lively Q&A session with Capt. Brent Hopkins (CAN N), Head Curriculum Planning Branch. This was followed by a tour of the NDC premises, after which Professors Kathleen Fitzsimmons and Robert Sonnabend spent time in discussion with the College Dean, Dr Daria Daniels Skodnik (SVN C).
This visit gave the group from AUR first-hand insight into the NDC’s role as NATO’s premier academic institution.
