On Wednesday 30 October 2013, LtGen Dieter NASKRENT (DEU F), Deputy Chief of Staff of the German Air Force, visited the NATO Defense College (NDC).
He was warmly welcomed by NDC Commandant LtGen Arne Bård DALHAUG (NOR A). Following a tour of the College, LtGen Naskrent spent time with BrigGen Gerd BISCHOF (DEU F), Head of the College’s Academic Planning & Policy Division, who described the work undertaken by the College in furthering its three fundamental objectives – education, outreach and research – and illustrated the main features of the courses it runs.
It was an honour for the College to receive the Deputy Chief of Staff of the German Air Force: Germany has for a long time now been a prominent participant in the College’s activities, with several German nationals attending the Senior Course every year. There are, currently, four German participants in SC123.
LtGen Naskrent began his military training at the German Air Force Training Regiment 5 in Goslar, followed by training at the German Air Force Officers’ School in Neubiberg, the German Air Force Air Defence School in El Paso, and the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College in Hamburg. He obtained a degree in Business Administration from the Bundeswehr University in Hamburg and studied at the National Defense University in Washington DC. As a Brigadier General, he was Chief of Staff in the German Air Force Command in Cologne, followed by an assignment as Commissioner for Education and Training Attached to the Chief of Staff in the Federal Ministry of Defence in Berlin. He served as Major General in his role as Commander of the 1st Air Division, in Fuerstenfeldbruck. Following his promotion to Lieutenant General, he served as Commander in the German Air Force Air Operations Command in Kalkar, Commander in the Combined Air Operations Centre Uedem in Uedem, and Executive Director in the Joint Air Power Competence Centre in Kalkar. In April 2012 he became Deputy Chief of Staff of the German Air Force.
LtGen Naskrent has been awarded many decorations, including the Gold Cross of Honour of the Bundeswehr.
