On 1 September 2009, in the Maynard-Thorn Auditorium, the Commandant of the NATO Defense College, Lt Gen. Wolf-Dieter LOESER, welcomed the 82 members of Senior Course 115, coming from 32 different countries; a special welcome was addressed to the first ever Course Member from New Zealand, which is one of the Contact Countries.
The Commandant introduced himself and the key players of the College team and then outlined the NDC’s philosophy, its mission, and its three main pillars: education, outreach, and, last but not least, research.
After underlining the aims and objectives of the SC, the Commandant handed over the floor to the Dean, Dr Grant HAMMOND, who spoke about the learning process and the challenges which the CMs are going to meet during their stay at the NDC.
The introduction to the Course ended with presentations by other key players, including the Director of the Research Division, Dr Karl-Heinz KAMP, and the Director of Management, BGen. György JUHÁSZ.
