On June 6th and 7th a group from the University of Plymouth at Britannia Royal Naval College visited the NATO Defense College to learn about its activities at first hand. Led by Dr Fotios Moustakis, the group was made up of lecturers and graduate students attending the University’s M.A. in Applied Strategy and International Security.
In the morning of Monday 6th, after a welcome coffee hosted by the Faculty Advisor for Senior Course 118, Col. Dimitrios Agorakis, the students had the opportunity to attend two lectures in the College’s main auditorium. The topics were the Maghreb and the Mashriq, comprehensively covered by Prof. Mustapha Benchenane and Prof. Gökhan Çetinsaya respectively.
After lunch the guests were briefed by the Director of Academic Operations Division, Brigadier General Nick Smith, on career and professional opportunities in the NATO environment, and by Dr. Brooke Smith-Windsor of the NDC Research Division on current research activities.
On Tuesday 7th June the group attended very informative lectures on Sub-Saharan Africa, by Dr. Greg Mills, and on the Sahel and the Horn of Africa, by Dr Mohammad-Mahmoud Ould Mohamedou. After lunch, they were briefed on the NATO Defense College’s Academic Curriculum Planning by Gp. Capt. Pete Allan.
The NDC was pleased to have this opportunity to welcome our guests from the University of Plymouth, on what was judged a most successful visit for all concerned.
