The NDC Next Generation fellowship operates as a standing problem-solving capability for NATO. It moves away from the traditional model of annual academic fellowships to maintain a permanent network of early-career professionals whose membership is defined by their ongoing engagement.
The fellowship prioritises technical and functional expertise—for instance in engineering, electronic warfare, civil-military relations—over area studies. We seek specialists who possess both deep subject-matter mastery and the agility to apply that knowledge to diverse, cross-disciplinary challenges. This allows the network to bridge the gap between siloed technical skill sets and NATO’s broader operational requirements.

Core functions
Applied Problem-Solving: The fellowship revolves around intensive in-person workshops designed to resolve specific challenges sourced from across the NATO enterprise.
A Growing Knowledge Base: By drawing from academic, military, governmental, and industrial sectors, the network builds a deepening body of applied expertise that remains available to NATO stakeholders.
Peer Collaboration: Membership provides a continuous link to a high-calibre network of peers and NATO change-makers.
Engagement
The fellowship is currently consolidating its network rather than seeking new applicants. However, the scheme is actively seeking challenge setters. NATO stakeholders with tricky problems that require a multidisciplinary technical response are encouraged to reach out. To propose a challenge or discuss how the network can support your requirements, contact: [email protected]
