On 17th June SC 118 visited the Centre for Political and International Studies in Moscow.
Prof. A. NIKITIN, Director of the Centre for Political and International Studies, commenced the session; providing a thought provoking introduction of the current status of the NATO – Russia relationship.
The first briefing was delivered by Mr. Y. GORLACH, Chief of the Department for European Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affaires. He provided a very frank overview of Russian foreign policy and its current security issues.
Col. EFREMON from the Academy of the General Staff of the Armed forces of the Russian Federation, provided a comprehensive explanation of the reform of the Russian Armed Forces.
Gen. KULIKOV, Chairman of the International Anti-Criminal Anti-Terrorist Forum, former Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and Minister of Interior and Commander of Troops of Interior of Russia, delivered a very clear and forthright presentation of Russia’s approach to counter terrorism and explained the rational for the re-structuring of Russian Armed Forces.
Maj. Gen. V. NIKISHIN, Counselor at the Department for Military Security of the CSTO International Secretariat, provided an in depth analysis of CSTO.
Dr. T. PARKHAKLINA, Director of the Centre for European Security and Dr. V. KAMYSHANOV, President of the International Federation for Peace and Conciliation, provided a valuable insight into the Russia approach to NATO and its security challenges from 2 different perspectives.
The session concluded with a briefing delivered by Gen. SHEVTSOV, currently Senior Researcher at the Institute for Operational-Tactical Studies, Internal Troops Command, Ministry of Interior, who analysed the Russian experience from its involvement in the Balkan operations.
The Course had a very full and valuable day that provided them with a very clear understanding of Russia’s current security challenges from several different perspectives.
