Senior Course 120 started its third and final Field Study in the beautiful city of Copenhagen in Denmark. The course arrived on Monday 11th June and settled in to their accommodation. Bright and early on the morning of Tuesday 12th June the Senior Course gathered in the Conference Suite of the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel for a series of briefings on Danish Security and Defence Policy.
The morning started with a briefing on Danish Foreign Policy by Mr Ulrick Enemark Petersen from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs which was followed by Mr Kristian Fisher, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of State for Defence, who covered Danish Security and Defence Policy. Both lectures included question and answer sessions which allowed the Course members to explore some issues of interest in more detail. After a coffee break the Senior Course was privileged to receive two lectures from the Chief of the Defence Staff of the Danish Armed Forces, General Peter Bartram. In his first lecture, entitled “Danish Defence”, the General gave a detailed briefing on the Danish Armed Forces, their raison d’être, their current operations and future plans and challenges. In his second lecture General Bartram covered the topical issue of “Denmark in the Arctic”. The morning finished with an hour long question and answer session, which, judging by the number of people wanting to ask questions of the distinguished panel, could have gone on for much longer.
It was a perfect start to the Regional Field Study and the College is very grateful for the time and effort put in by the Chief of Defence, the other lecturers and the hosting team from the Danish Armed Forces.
