On October 23, NATO Defense College (NDC) Commandant LtGen Arne Bård Dalhaug (NOR-A) and Col. Giuseppe Morabito (ITA-A), Director of the Middle East Faculty, were honoured to welcome a distinguished guest lecturer in the person of Rabbi David Rosen.
Rabbi Rosen gave a lecture on “The Fundaments of Judaism”, addressed to the eighth NATO Regional Cooperation Course (NRCC-8). The lecture provided Course Members with detailed, relevant and accessible information on the key canons of the Jewish faith and its historical origins.
A former Chief Rabbi of Ireland and currently the International Director of Interreligious Affairs of the Global Jewish Advocacy and Director of its Heilbrunn Institute for International Interreligious Understanding, Rabbi Rosen offered an authoritative perspective on significant issues for the Jewish faith and population, such as the concept of attachment to the land, the protection of the Jewish cultural heritage and the problem of anti-Semitism.
The lecture afforded a significant and greatly appreciated contribution to the NRCC syllabus, which aims at strengthening multicultural dialogue and mutual understanding among Course Members from different national and religious backgrounds. Organized by the Middle East Faculty, the NRCC is addressed to military and civilian officials from NATO member states and from partner countries of the Mediterranean and Gulf region.
Lectures of Opportunity such as that offered by Rabbi Rosen are of great value to the College, since they add substantial relevance to its mission of enhancing knowledge and discussion among members of NATO and in the international community as a whole.
