The week-long Integrated Partner Orientation Course (IPOC) and Modular Short Course 131-3, entitled “NATO: Present and Future”, ended today. The courses ran in conjunction with Senior Course 131 and are part of the NDC’s educational mission.
MSC 131-3 was attended by 13 participants from 9 different NATO countries, while IPOC was attended by 18 participants from 15 different partner countries.
Both the courses were planned to analyze the role and character of NATO, including its organization, policies and activities, in order to consider the contribution of the Alliance to global security and the adaptations necessary to remain relevant to the changing security environment and the demands of current operations.
The Course Members were welcomed on Monday, 23 October 2017 by the Commandant of the NDC LtGen Chris WHITECROSS (CAN F) and by BrigGen David PINCET (FRA F), Head of the Academic Operations Division, who both delivered a welcome address.
The participants were able to deepen their knowledge about NATO’s structure and key features by attending interesting lectures on “NATO in the Post-Cold War Order: Challenges and Implications”, by Dr Karl-Heinz KAMP (DEU) and Prof. Peter Viggo JAKOBSEN (DNK); “NATO and the Transatlantic Link”, by Mr Stanley R. SLOAN (USA) and Prof. Sten RYNNING (DNK); “ NATO Strategic Guidance”, by Mr Michael RÜHLE (NATO/DEU); “NATO Resource Policy”, by Mr Joris GHESQUIERE (BEL); “NATO Conventional and Nuclear Deterrence”, by Mr Timo KOSTER (NATO/NLD) and Dr Jeffrey LARSEN (NDC/USA); and final presentations on “NATO Defence Planning”, by Mr Ian BAYLESS (NATO/GBR) and Prof. Alexander MATTELAER (BEL).
