
After the visit to NATO Headquarters on Monday 18 November, the Generals, Flag Officers and Ambassadors’ Course (GFOAC 2019-2) continued the following day with a visit to the European External Action Service (EEAS). Mr Andras Kos, Policy officer in the NATO, Agreements and Partnerships Division, Security and Defence Policy Directorate, gave a briefing on ‘the Implementation of the EU-NATO Joint Declaration‘; Mr Fernando Andresen Guimaraes, Head of the Policy Coordination Division explained ‘the conduct of the policy making process within the EEAS and with regard to the work of the Council and the Commission‘; Head of the Security and Defence Policy Division, Mr Arnout Molenaar, briefed on ‘EU Security and Defence‘; Director for Interinstitutional Relations, Policy Coordination and Public Diplomacy, Mr& Oliver Rentschler briefed on ‘the role and priorities of the EEAS and the implementation of the EU Global Strategy in the area of Security and Defence’. Branch Chief Military Assessment & Planning, Operations Directorate in the EU Military Staff (EUMS) Captain (Navy) Hans Huygens ended the briefings by explaining ‘the internal and external comprehensive approach; the role and tasks of the EUMS and EU military missions/operations’.
Course Director, Brigadier General Rolf Wagner (DEU A) finalized the day by thanking the EEAS for hosting GFOAC 2019-2, as well as for the comprehensive briefings. He also noted the tremendous assistance provided by Visit Coordinator Ms Nicole Meijer and Lieutenant Colonel Umberto Palatucci Action Officer EUMS 2 – ACOS External Relations Branch.
GFOAC 2019-2 came to a close after the visit to Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) on Wednesday 20 November.
