On 8 March 2021, the NATO Defense College welcomed a virtual visit of the Higher Command and Staff Course (HCSC) of the Baltic Defence College, as part of its International Study Trip (IST). This event focused on discussing and sharing views on transatlantic security issues, and was jointly organized by the NDC and the Baltic Defence College.
NDC Commandant Lieutenant General Olivier Rittimann opened the session with introductory remarks, followed by the BALTDEFCOL’s Commandant, Major General Andis Dilans. The Commandants’ speeches were followed by those of the Dean, Dr. Stephen J. Mariano, who shared his insights on how the NDC works to achieve its mission, and how the institution contributes to the effectiveness and cohesion of the Alliance and its partners. Brigadier General Rolf Wagner (Director of Academic Planning and Policy Division) and Dr. Thierry Tardy (Director Research Division) explained how the NDC implements its mission in support of NATO strategic objectives in terms of education, research and outreach activities.
In light of the current COVID-19 situation, the NDC strives to accommodate virtual visits to the NDC. The NDC was pleased to hold the engagement online, one which resulted in a most successful and enriching Study Trip for the HCSC students, who witnessed and confirmed firsthand how the NDC contributes to international security.
