The first study period for both the Senior Course and the NATO Regional Cooperation Course lays the foundation for the lectures Course Members in both courses. Study Period A focuses on the NATO Quotient, the Strategic Quotient, and the Emotional Quotient.
The NATO quotient (NQ) was explored over two days, with the Chair of the Military Committee Admiral Bauer who delivered the inaugural address and delved into NATO-specific elements. The second day devoted to NQ was steered by the NDC Commandant, Lieutenant General Olivier Rittimann who shared his experience and knowledge about NATO. The NATO Quotient is a recurrent topic during the courses.
The Strategic Quotient (SQ) was covered by Sir Hew Strachan FBA. The focus was on Strategy and Thinking Strategically, a most important skill that can always be improved and that is also a recurrent theme throughout the Academic Programme.
The Emotional Quotient (EQ) is about enhancing interpersonal skills, the ability to discuss and build consensus, two defining features of both the Course and of NATO. The lectures by Mr Paul Sewell and Ms Irene Fellin addressed the significance of culture among International Actors and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. Mr Paul Sewell is a NATO civilian working in Organizational Development and Culture at the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) in Stavanger. Ms Irene Fellin is the newly appointed Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security for NATO’s Secretary General.
The Study Period A was coordinated and moderated by Faculty Advisor Ms Nancy Vellone.
