Senior Course 143 (SC 143) presented their Committee Study Projects (CSP), a research project that reflects a collective effort for each of the 8 committees of the Senior Course. More than an academic exercise, the CSP is the result and reflection of strategic thinking and consensus-building skills.
A CSP consists of developing a consensus paper that answers a research question on topics of strategic relevance to NATO, as proposed by the NDC Research Division, covering areas such as NATO and strategic competition, crisis prevention and management, cooperative security, and the evolving landscape of innovation and the future of warfare.
The primary gains of this exercise include putting into practice strategic thinking skills when choosing a relevant research question, and developing consensus-building techniques to reach an answer.
The best project is awarded the “Eisenhower Prize”, which will be announced upon graduation of Senior Course 143. The panel of judges includes the NDC leadership and special guests Dr Richard D. Hooker Jr, former Dean of the NATO Defense College and Non-resident Senior Fellow with the Transatlantic Security Initiative in the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, and Dr Karl-Heinz Kamp, former Director of the NATO Defense College Research Division and Associate Fellow of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in Berlin.
This collaborative effort and academic achievement underscores the NATO Defense College’s commitment to developing skilled leaders equipped with the strategic thinking skills necessary to navigate the complex challenges of the ever-evolving global landscape of the Alliance and its partner countries.
