The NATO Defense College this week hosted Modular Short Course 131-4. Entitled “Global Security Challenges”, the Course focused on the most urgent security threats and their implications for NATO.
MSC 131-4 was attended by 13 participants from 11 different NATO countries.
The Course started on Monday 27 November, with a remarkable lecture on “Security Perspectives of Demographic Trends” by Prof. Dr Gunnar Heinsohn (DEU). Tuesday was devoted to “Energy Security”, with thought-provoking lessons by Prof. Aleh Cherp (BLR, SWE) and Mr Julijus Grubliauskas (LTU-NATO). Another very timely lecture was scheduled on Wednesday, when Prof. Christina Sabonis-Helf (USA) provided an overview of “Water, Food and Climate Change”. On Thursday, there was a brilliant session on “Terrorism and Organized Crime” with Dr Christina Schori-Liang (USA) and Col Jean-Philippe Reiland (FRA). The excellent closing lecture, by Prof. Dr Holger Mey (DEU) on Friday 1 December, focused on “Weapons of Mass Destruction – Proliferation and Arms Control”.
Throughout the week, Course Members took full advantage of the Q&A sessions with lecturers. The week’s activities were also complemented by many other opportunities for debate and discussion.
