Thursday 29 October, the fourth and last day of the Public Affairs Conference, the College welcomed as keynote speaker Admiral James G. Stavridis, current Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).
In his speech, Shaping Ideas, Admiral Stavridis spoke to the communicators present at the conference of his belief that the New Chapter in the NATO narrative will be determined by the work on the new Strategic Concept led by Dr Albright. At this important moment in history, as the Alliance moves towards this crucial goal, it is extremely important for NATO to tell its story.
The main job for the Public Affairs Officer is therefore to launch new ideas that will have an impact on public opinion. It is essential to find ways to engage the younger generation interactively, so as to give them an opportunity to learn more about NATO and, it is hoped, encourage them to support it. This can be achieved by using the newest technologies, including social networks such as Facebook.
Admiral Stavridis ended his speech by urging the PA Officers to think creatively about how they can convey the NATO message.
