The last stage of the NATO Defense College’s Senior Course 119 “European Perspectives” Field Study took Course Members to London, where they were given an extensive overview of the security and defence policies of one of the Alliance’s founding nations.
During their day in London, the group received a number of comprehensive briefings illustrating the UK’s range of commitments in the security field. Topics covered ranged from British Defence Policy to NATO-ESDP-UN issues. These intensive and highly informative sessions were followed by a talk giving a wide-ranging account of the UK Developmental Approach to Conflict and Instability, and another on British Foreign Policy and European Security.
The morning was concluded by an open forum, during which Course Members took full advantage of the opportunity to ask panellists representing the UK Government for further comments on specific aspects of the topics dealt with in the talks.
In the late afternoon, the NATO Defense College delegation, led by NDC Commandant Lieutenant General Arne Bård Dalhaug, met representatives from the defence industry and a group of British Anciens. The meeting was organized by FINMECCANICA, one of the major contributors to the NDC Foundation.
The return of the Senior Course to the College premises in Rome brings the first Field Study period of SC 119 to a close. The Field Studies programme is an integral part of the NDC’s Senior Course curriculum, and another two are scheduled in the coming months.
