
The Senior Course left the United States and on April 28 visited NATO HQ in Brussels. The day began with welcome remarks from the Director of the International Military Staff, Lt Gen. Jo Godderij, followed by an address by the Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero.
Colonel Andrew Budd, Chief of the Strategic Policy and Concepts Branch, Plans and Policy Division, briefed the Senior Course on issues related to the Division. At the end of the morning session, Heinz Ferkinghoff, Deputy Director Nuclear Policy of the Defense Policy and Planning Division of the International Staff, presented NATO’s nuclear policy.
After lunch, the Senior Course was welcomed by the Chairman of the Military Committee, Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola. In the briefing that followed, Martin Howard, Assistant Secretary General for Operations, provided a deeper insight into NATO operations. He was followed by Radoslava Stefanova of the Political Affairs and Security Policy Division, who explained in detail the relationship between NATO and Russia.
