On 17th April 2012, a group of 58 course members and staff from the Turkish Air War College visited the NATO Defense College (NDC) in Rome for an overview of the NDC, its academic programmes and daily activities. The Turkish delegation was led by Major General Ayhan Gümüş, Commandant of the Air War College.
After receiving a warm welcome from the NDC Commandant, Lt.Gen. Arne Bård Dalhaug, the group took a tour of the NDC premises. Afterwards the visitors joined Senior Course 120 to attend a lecture by Lt.Gen. (retired) P.J.M. Godderij, former Director of the International Military Staff at NATO HQ in Brussels. The speaker offered an experienced practician’s perspective on “How NATO works”, as well as on current and emerging security challenges facing the Alliance.
After the lecture the Chief of the NDC Public Affairs Office, Lt.Col. Mario Masdea, provided an informative briefing on the College’s courses, other major activities and related matters. The delegation then participated in a panel discussion on NATO, during which they had the chance to ask questions and express their views concerning the Alliance’s mission and core tasks, as well as its present and future initiatives.
