On Wednesday 11th December, the NATO Defense College (NDC) was honoured to receive a delegation from Saudi Arabia, for the first time. The purpose of the visit was to gain insight into the College’s objectives and activities, as well as to return the visit, earlier in the year, of the Middle East Faculty (MEF) Director Col Giuseppe Morabito (ITA A) and Faculty Adviser Col Daniel Gillespie (USA F), to Saudi Arabia.
Upon arrival, the delegation, led by MajGen Mohammed Alghamdi (SAU) and accompanied by the Deputy Military Attaché to the Saudi Embassy in Rome Captain Mohammad Saud, was warmly welcomed by NDC Commandant LtGen Arne Bård Dalhaug (NOR A).
The visit continued with a briefing by MEF Director, who described the structure of the College and its academic activities. He illustrated the objectives and main features of the NDC courses, focusing in particular on the Senior Course (SC), the NATO Regional Cooperation Course (NRCC) and the new Senior Executive Regional Conference (SERC) which, so far, have included eleven Course Members from Saudi Arabia in the NRCC and one in the SERC.
The delegation toured the College’s main buildings and, in particular, the MEF.
The visit of Maj Gen Mohammed Alghamdi and his delegation was an excellent opportunity for the visitors to better understand the NDC’s role as NATO’s premier academic institution.
