A letter from the Dean

We also wanted to remind you that the latest edition of Vox Collegii is now available online and it’s full of updates from the last eight months. I encourage you to check it out and see what the College, our Faculty, Staff, Course Members, Anciens, and Alumni have been up to.

One big piece of news is setting a date for the 68th Annual Anciens’ Conference and Seminar and the NATO Defense College 70th Anniversary on 18-20 November 2021. It’s a little later in the year than usual, in part because the anniversary is timed to coincide with the start of Senior Course 1 in Paris on November 18th, 1951, and in part because we have coordinated our celebrations with Allied Command Transformation, who is organizing the NATO Industry Forum, which will also be held in Rome, just before our celebration. Hope to see many of you here!

The other big announcement is that the Military Committee approved a new direction and guidance document for the NATO Defense College, on 30 April 2021. The almost-famous MC 123 is now in its tenth iteration and includes several important changes. The Military Committee gave us a slightly adapted mission statement that underscores education as the primary task of the College. The new guidance document also describes our engagements with NATO entities and NATO partners in a more coherent way.  It emphasizes E-learning and provides the College with increased freedom to experiment with new audiences, new courses, and new technologies.
