Senior Course 117 experienced their first day of Field Study, devoted to lectures on the Italian Perspective.
Italian Security and Defence Policy was presented by three distinguished speakers, who gave a clear overview on the topic to the Course Members.
The first lecture, on the Political-Military Security policy implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was given by Counsellor Andrea ROMUSSI, Head of the NATO and Military Office, Directorate for Multilateral and Political Cooperation.
The second lecture was delivered by Salvatore GUGLIELMINO, Director of the Office for Coordination and Planning of Police Forces, International Relations Service, Ministry of the Interior, who outlined the Italian government’s homeland security policies and priorities.
Major General Salvatore FARINA, Deputy Chief, Department of Military Policy and Planning, Italian Defence General Staff, delivered a presentation on Defence Policy covering the main commitments of the Italian Armed Forces and the most sensitive potential threats.
The lectures were followed by a lengthy Q&A period during which the Course Members showed a lively interest in the topics, asking the panellists challenging questions.
Senior Course 117 is the first six-month course to try out three shorter Field Studies instead of the usual two long ones. The aim is to provide the Course Members with a more effective overview on the topics dealt with during the visits and to avoid wasting time during long transfer journeys.
The next stages of the European Field Study will be in Paris, London, Berlin, Copenhagen, and Sarajevo.
