On Monday 17 March 2014, the eleventh NATO Regional Cooperation Course (NRCC 11), directed by Col G. Morabito (ITA A), Head of the Middle East Faculty (MEF), had the privilege of attending a lecture given by BrigGen Santi Bonfanti (ITA A).
Earlier, NRCC participants joined Senior Course 124 for their morning lectures, on the subject of “The United Nations”, given by Prof Mats Bardal (NOR C) – Senior Consulting Fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) – and by Mr Marc Garlasco (USA C), who worked as a Senior Military Analyst in Human Rights Watch’s (HRW) Emergencies Division.
BrigGen
Bonfanti’s lecture on the United Nations Operation in Lebanon opened with an overview of the area and continued with a closer analysis of the stakeholders and the critical factors influencing the situation.
BrigGen Bonfanti worked at Joint Command South, as SO1 Exercises (NATO & NATO/PfP), where he was responsible for training (JCS-KFOR 4). From 2007 to 2008, he was the Director of Staff Operations (DOSO) & Head of the Central Staff Division at the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy in Solbiate Olona. Afterwards, he was COM KFOR Chief of Cabinet and Chief of the Joint Effects Coordination Branch at the KFOR HQ in Pristina (Kosovo), and later served as Deputy Head of Mission and Deputy Force Commander at the HQ of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), in Naqoura (Lebanon). Since April 2013 he has been Head of Doctrine and Lessons Learned at the “Comando per la Formazione, Specializzazione e Dottrina” in Rome.
