On Wednesday 19 February, Lieutenant General Portolano was welcomed at the NATO Defense College by NDC Commandant, Lieutenant General Chris Whitecross, and Senior National Representative for Italy Colonel Riccardo Brizi.
As Commander of the Italian Joint Operations HQ in Rome since September 2019, Lieutenant General Portolano has commanded at all levels and served in a wide variety of assignments. Prior to his current position, he served as Chief of Staff and Head of the European Union Command at Joint Force Command Naples (JFCNP), one of two Joint Force Commands in the NATO Command Structure.
The main focus of the visit was to provide an overview of the NDC’s mission and activities and of its unique academic contribution within the NATO structure.
