NATO and China: how to deal with each other?
In discussions about NATO’s partnerships on a global scale, China often seems the “elephant in the room” – too big and too relevant to be ignored, but at the same time not easily included in NATO’s partnership approach since it is not politically like-minded and does not contribute to Alliance operations. The situation is further complicated by ambiguities over China’s future development, and by a precarious situation in the Indo-Pacific region which concerns other NATO partners like Japan or Australia.
The new Research Paper from the NATO Defense College analyses the developments in East Asia, and assesses the chances for a mutually beneficial cooperation between NATO and China.
