
The Sahel, a vast belt of land encompassing ten countries – half of them members of the NATO Mediterranean Dialogue – is of undeniable strategic importance due to its natural resources and geographical location. Over the past twenty years it has become a breeding ground for organized crime, weakening local states and creating new threats on the rim of the Mediterranean Dialogue area.
This new NATO Defense College publication argues that it is now time for NATO to focus more on this issue.
