On Sunday 4th March 2012, Senior Course 120 commenced the 61st walk around the walls of Rome. The course set off from Piramide, in good weather, and under the leadership of the Centurion in Charge – Colonel Stuart MacRostie – began the circumnavigation of Rome following the Aurelian walls. Not only is the event an opportunity to see parts of Rome one would not otherwise see, and learn a little more of the fascinating history of the walls, it also provides an opportunity to meet fellow course members in a relaxed setting and walk, talk and get to know one another better.
The route followed its normal course, with one diversion to the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem. Thanks go once again to the British Embassy for allowing SC 120 to use the Embassy gardens for lunchtime refreshments, ably set up by Faculty Advisor Maria Grazia Romano and her logistics team.
All along the route the logistics team ensured that food and drink were available when needed, and their support was very much appreciated.
There was also a stop in Piazza del Popolo for a Walls Walk group photograph.
The group marched on throughout the day, morale was high in spite of aching limbs, and the walk concluded back at Piramide, safely and in fine weather, with a record total of 121 brave walkers finishing successfully.
Once again, the Walls Walk proved to be a most popular event for the Senior Course and all participants enjoyed a wonderful day.
