On 23rd November, the NATO Defense College (NDC) was honoured to receive a visit from Vice Admiral Charles Johnstone-Burt (GBR N), Chief of Staff Allied Command Transformation (COS ACT). To mark this important occasion, Vice Admiral Johnstone-Burt was escorted on arrival by a Guard of Honour from the Carabinieri Corps and cordially welcomed by Lieutenant General Arne Bård Dalhaug (NOR A), NDC Commandant.
During an office call with the Commandant, Vice Admiral Johnstone-Burt had the opportunity to familiarize with the mission and fundamental values of the College. NDC Dean Dr Richard Hooker (USA C) provided introductory information on the College’s courses and related activities.
Vice Admiral Johnstone-Burt, the Commandant, the Dean and the leadership of the College afterwards took part in a detailed round-table discussion of the NDC’s organization, as well as its educational and outreach activities.
Allied Command Transformation (ACT), in Norfolk (Virginia), is the only NATO command in North America and the Alliance’s only permanent headquarters outside Europe. At strategic command level, ACT is the leader of transformation in NATO’s military structure, forces, capabilities and doctrine. In this context, a sharp focus on the training of commanders and staff affords a vital contribution to encouraging and implementing the concept of interoperability among NATO member states.
