Today, 30 March 2020, the NDC joins NATO HQ in celebrating North Macedonia’s accession to the Alliance, with a flag raising ceremony.
On Friday 27 March 2020, North Macedonia became NATO’s newest member, after depositing its instrument of accession with the US State Department in Washington DC. NATO Allies signed North Macedonia’s Accession Protocol in February 2019, after which all 29 national parliaments voted to ratify the country’s membership.
North Macedonia is a long-standing contributor to Euro-Atlantic security, including by participating in NATO-led missions in Afghanistan and in Kosovo.
Today on 30 March, a flag-raising ceremony took place simultaneously at NATO HQ, ACO and ACT, as well as at the NATO Defense College in Rome, in the presence of the Commandant, LGEN Chris Whitecross, the Dean, Dr Stephen Mariano and the NDC’s Research Fellow from North Macedonia Mr Boshko Stankovski.
“North Macedonia is now part of the NATO family, a family of thirty nations and almost one billion people. A family based on the certainty that, no matter what challenges we face, we are all stronger and safer together.“ NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated.
